Joint Council condemns JSS stand opposing CSO Mangkolemba’s ultimatum
The Joint Council of Nokpu and Saringyim (Nokpu-B) villages under the Japukong range in Mokokchung has reaffirmed its support for the ultimatum issued by the Civil Society Organisation (CSO), Mangkolemba, on October 3, while condemning the Japukong Senso Senden’s (JSS) October 11 press release opposing the ultimatum.
In a rejoinder dated October 13, the Joint Council said it strongly disagreed with and condemned the JSS statement, reiterating its “unwavering support” for the CSO’s ultimatum and its pursuit of accountability and justice.
The council maintained that matters concerning public accountability must be addressed with sincerity, transparency and responsibility. It said the concerns raised by civil society were legitimate and warranted due consideration, adding that they should not be undermined or dismissed.
Reaffirming its position, the Joint Council stated that it fully supported the stand taken by the CSO and upheld the decision communicated through its ultimatum.
It said it would remain in solidarity with the organisation until the matter was satisfactorily resolved.
The council urged all concerned to respect the role of civil society in upholding accountability and work towards a just, transparent and responsible resolution of the matter.
