The Political Science Association (PSA) of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, held its 8th annual lecture on October 26 to mark United Nations Day, observed under the theme “Stronger Together: Renewing the Promise of the United Nations.”

Delivering the lecture, Dr Madhavi R, IAS, Assistant Commissioner, Mokokchung, reflected on the history and continuing relevance of the United Nations, established on October 24, 1945, to maintain international peace and security and promote cooperation among nations.
She highlighted the importance of multilateralism in addressing global challenges, including climate change, conflict and inequality, stressing that cooperation requires unity while respecting differences. She noted that the principles of collective responsibility and cooperation extend beyond international institutions, with communities coming together to address crises reflecting the same spirit.
Dr Madhavi emphasised the need to adapt the ideals of the UN’s founding to present-day realities, calling for a shift from individual interests towards collective responsibility. She also highlighted India’s contribution to UN peacekeeping missions and the importance of dialogue and mutual trust.
Referring to Northeast India, she stressed the need to respect cultural diversity while pursuing shared aspirations. The lecture also examined the Sustainable Development Goals and their relevance to inclusive development and building a sustainable future.
The programme began with a welcome address and introductory note by Dr Lipokrenla, Head of the Department of Political Science, and concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session.
