Wokha, June 24 (MTNews): The first-ever indigenously built Eco-Carp Hatchery in Nagaland has been set up at New Wokha Village. The new hatchery was inaugurated by the Director of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Rongsennungba on Wednesday.

The project, which was set up under the centrally sponsored scheme Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana, will help cater to the demands of fish seeds in the state, and particularly in Wokha District.

Rongsennungba said that the availability of quality seed of cultivable freshwater fish species has always been felt for intensification of fish production in Nagaland. Due to limited fish seed farms, there is less production of fry or fingerlings, and seeds are being procured annually from neighboring states to meet the high demand from fish farmers in Nagaland.
