Intensive awareness drives, strict enforcement, penalty for violators mulled
The District Task Force for Restricting the Use of Plastics is all geared up to implement the ban on Single Use Plastics (SUP) that has come into effect from July 1 across India. In order to devise a strategy for successful implementation of the ban, the District Task Force held a meeting on July 1 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall.
The District Task Force has entrusted the Mokokchung Municipal Council and the Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry to carry out intensive awareness drives about the ban on Single Use plastics / plastic carry bags in Mokokchung town.
Meanwhile, the outpost Administrative officers will be responsible for creating awareness in their respective jurisdictions. Further, the District Task Force has also resolved that MMC and outpost Administrative Officers shall be responsible for strictly enforcing the ban in their respective jurisdictions.
Further, the District Task Force has also resolved to impose fines as penalty for violation of the ban on single use plastics in the district. It was resolved that retailers, restaurants and vegetable stall owners who violate the ban shall be penalized a fine of Rs. 500/- while wholesalers, suppliers and distributors will be fined Rs. 5000/-
Another striking resolution adopted by the District Task Force was that public gatherings like weddings, funerals, functions etc. as well as Government offices or institution who violate the ban shall be fined Rs. 5000/-
The District Task Force has also called upon all stakeholders to take the task of restricting the use of plastics seriously and stressed that the ban would be a success only with active participation of all sections of the society.
