Mokokchung, July 20 (MTNews): Smriti Zubin Irani, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development, underlined the requirements for hiring anganwadi workers as part of the Anganwadi Services Scheme in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
She said that, the Anganwadi workers are selected from the local village by a Committee constituted by the State Government/UT Administration where the minimum prescribed qualification is Matriculation and age limit is 18-35 years for engagement of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs).
She said that AWWs and AWHs get uniform monthly honoraria in all States and UTs, as determined from time to time by the government.
The monthly honorarium for AWWs at main Anganwadi Centers (AWCs) is INR 4,500; for AWWs in mini-AWCs, it is INR 3,500; and for AWHs, it is INR 2,250. Additionally, AWHs and AWWs get monthly performance-linked incentives worth Rs. 250 and Rs. 500, respectively.
Additionally, States/UTs are also paying additional monetary incentives/honorarium to these functionaries from their own resources.
She then went on to say that no plan to raise the pay of anganwadi workers is being considered.
