With a vision to facilitate influential and passionate emotional steadfastness between a mother and a daughter, the first Mothers-Daughters One-day Retreat was held on 23rd April, 2022 organized by the Kumlong Baptist Church Women Ministry on the theme “A Merciful Woman” under the leadership of Ms. Rachel Jamir, Associate Pastor, Women Ministry. The objective of the retreat was to help in impacting lives through one’s communication and habits and foster deeper relationship and connection between a mother and a daughter.

Mrs. Temsulila, the resource person of the event, a teacher and a mother of two, spoke about how respectful communication is important and should be developed between one another. She further added that as a mother, “there will be times when being patient becomes sour. However, with tears and hope if one humbles before God, the battle will be won.” She added that as mentioned in Proverbs 22:6, a mother should try to reflect Godly character. “One’s heart should be filled with love, kindness, forgiving heart, merciful and always works for peace at home and society.”

Imkongsenla and Toshimongla, both sisters and students of Town Higher Secondary School, mentioned it was first ever kind of program they had attended along with their mother. They learnt more about mother’s love and also their responsibility as daughters in relationship building. Imsenkala, a student from Jubilee Memorial School said, “As a daughter, I had to be obedient towards my mother, and I also learnt more to help her and fear God and to be more humble.”

Moarula, student from Town Higher Secondary School who presented her original song “Ochi meim” along her mother mentioned that it was her first performance with her mother and she thanked Ms. Rachel Jamir for initiating such a wonderful program. It was a quality time spent with her mom, she added. Mrs. Alila, a mother from Mangmetong Village shared how the retreat had helped her more in realizing to be a prayerful parent and to be conscious of one’s culture as well. Merenchila, Counselling Psychologist when asked about being a merciful woman mentioned, “There is danger in being too merciful. We need to be assertive because others will not respect or value our worth.”

“So we had to be wise of what decisions we are making in order to have a healthy and a happy life,” she added.

Rachel Jamir, the Women pastor of the Church, highlighted that the retreat was organized to make the women aware to have a merciful attitude but not to be victimized, rather stand for what is right and what is wrong and work for the betterment of our society. Altogether 280 of them attended the program. Tiamenla said the invocation and the program ended with a mass prayer.
