Wapang Imchen readies debut concert
For 22-year-old Moawapang Imchen, popularly known as Wapang Imchen, music has long been more than a hobby.
A self-taught vocalist who grew up listening to bands like Europe, Dream Theater and Journey, Imchen said his musical taste has gradually evolved, and that he is currently most drawn to power metal.
“I’m into power metal right now,” he said.
After years of performing at local events, Imchen is now preparing to headline his first solo concert on May 2 at The Melody Room cafe, near Imlong Place, Mokokchung town.
Though modest in scale, the concert marks a meaningful personal milestone for the young singer, who is also the front man of local band Empty Pockets.
Speaking about his musical beginnings, Imchen said his parents often joke that he had been singing since he was two years old.
“But I think I really became active around eight or nine,” he said.
He also shared that Empty Pockets is currently “in the process” of producing its first original song.
The concert is being organised and supported by Lean Wolf Gym and will also feature guest artists Lily Rai, Takalemla, Aotoshi and Asung P.
For a young musician steadily finding his footing, the event reflects not just a performance opportunity, but a small and sincere step forward within Mokokchung’s local music scene.
With an entry fee of Rs 100, the concert also highlights how emerging artists often begin not with grand stages, but through community spaces and local support.
The tickets are available at The Melody Room Cafe and Lean Wolf Gym.
