Calls for clean polls, urges candidates to uphold integrity and reject malpractice

The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang convened a special prayer service on Tuesday, March 31 with candidates contesting the bye-election to the 28-Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency. The gathering aimed to seek divine guidance and promote peace, honesty, and integrity in the electoral process.

During the service, ABAM emphasised the need to maintain harmony and uphold moral values in public life. Candidates were reminded of their responsibility to serve with sincerity and fairness, ensuring that the democratic process reflects truth and justice. The organisation also urged all stakeholders, including candidates, supporters, and the wider community, to commit to peaceful conduct and respect the sanctity of the election.

Rev Talijungla Longkümer, Vice President of ABAM, thanked the candidates for their willingness to serve and appealed to them to refrain from violence and malpractice. She urged them to uphold dignity and integrity and said that “a fair and free election must begin with the candidates themselves.”

Speaking on the occasion, Rev Temsu Jamir, Executive Secretary of ABAM, called on candidates to honour their commitments and demonstrate leadership marked by integrity, humility, and accountability. Citing BR Ambedkar, he cautioned that corruption has become a “monster” in society and urged candidates to reject vote-buying, misuse of money, and the distribution of liquor and drugs. He also appealed to candidates to guide their supporters responsibly and avoid any form of violence or manipulation.
