The 11-day long Asian Football Confederation (AFC) C Diploma Course, under the All India Football Federation (AIFF), concluded at IG Stadium Kohima on Thursday.
The two-week course was organized by Nagaland Football Association with William Koso, a coach educator for All India Football Federation and the Asian Football Confederation as the instructor for the course. While Azho Sophie, course coordinator for this two-week-long course at the state capital Kohima. A total of 21 coaches from across the districts of Nagaland, including one from Assam and one from Lakshadweep, participated in the diploma course.
The course consisted of theoretical and practical content, while the results of the course will be announced in a later date.
K. Neibou Sekhose, President of the Nagaland Football Association, emphasized the increased responsibility of coaches in developing football in the state during his speech at the closing ceremony. He encouraged coaches to make a significant impact by striving to develop high-quality players. He further urged coaches to demonstrate honesty, integrity, and competence in nurturing and promoting footballers. He highlighted the crucial role of coaches in understanding and fulfilling their responsibilities to advance sports participation, development, and achievement.Sekhose expressed pride in hosting the 2nd AFC C course, a national event, and praised the instructor and coordinator, who began as a trainee in 2006 and are now passing on their knowledge. He expressed hope that the current batch of trainees would continue to share their experiences in the future.
Kevingutuo Sekhose, Head of the Referees in Nagaland, stressed the need for more qualified referees and coaches to raise the standard of football in the region. He called on coaches to excel in their unique ways.
Koso, the course instructor, pointed out the critical role coaches play in the state. He attributed the shortage of footballers in the state to a lack of coaching, emphasizing the urgent need for dedication and effort to produce talented players. He also thanked the association and the Department of Youth Resources and Sports for providing the necessary facilities to host a national event, ensuring that coaches have the resources they need.
Some of the trainees includes Kohima District Football Association president Mathew Yhome, Shillong Lajong goalkeeper Neithovilie Chalieu, SAI coaches Avval Hamza D S and Vekuto Puro, Khel India centre coaches including Kechi Kulimbe, Imlongchaba Chang and Kechi Kulimbe.
