The Nagaland Civil Secretariat has initiated a nine-day intensive Capacity Building Training program for nearly 720 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), including supervisors and sardars, in preparation for the amended Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, which will come into effect on April 1.
The large-scale program, which began on February 16 at the Secretariat in Kohima, is being organised by the Secretariat Administration Branch ‘B’ of the Home Department in collaboration with Living For Environment (LiFE), a non-governmental organisation promoting sustainable environmental practices.
Structured on findings from a 2019 waste assessment study conducted at the Secretariat by LiFE, the training incorporates Swachh Office protocols and updated regulatory standards under the new waste management framework.
The initiative is one of the largest coordinated capacity-building exercises undertaken within the Secretariat in recent years. Over the course of nine days, participants are being trained in systematic waste segregation, environmentally responsible disposal, maintenance of sanitation equipment, and compliance with statutory norms.
The sessions also include components on workplace discipline, office etiquette, hygiene practices, and occupational safety.
Practical implementation will begin in March, during which the LiFE team will monitor adoption of the newly introduced systems, assess operational gaps, and recommend corrective measures where required.
With the amended Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 set to take effect from April 1, the move signals the Secretariat’s effort to align its internal sanitation and waste management systems with the new regulatory regime.
