Arju Centre, an innovative education initiative of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) under the aegis of the Nagaland Education Mission Society, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland held its activity review meeting on Monday, 17 April at Magnus Hotel, Mokokchung.
Apart from reviewing the activities of the Arju Centres, other highlights of the day included PowerPoint presentation of the Arju Centres by the respective mentors, and sharing of action plan for the year 2023-24 and Arju Centre policies.
The PowerPoint presentation was a competition in which Arju Centres of Mongsenyimti, Sungratsu and Longjang villages were adjudged first, second and third positions respectively.
The day-long meeting also included a brainstorming session moderated by P. Tiatemsu, assistant professor, Fazl Ali College.
The Arju Centres are instituted in ten villages under Mokokchung district as part of the initiative, including Aonokpu, Longjang, Longpayimsen, Merangkong, Moayimti, Mongchen, Mongsenyimti, Sungratsu, Waromung and Yajang C villages.
The Arju Centre initiative was launched in 2022 with the vision to mould and nurture a child holistically. It was learnt that AKM plans to initiate Arju Centres in 12 more villages.
The Arju Centres follow the philosophy of the traditional male dormitory (Arju/morung) and functions in relevance with modern times with the scope of amalgamating traditional knowledge transfer along with remedial tutorials for regular school syllabus.
The pupils attending the Arju Centres are enriched with traditional knowledge, art and crafts, soft skills, social etiquettes and life skills, besides improving their regular academic education performance. The project has been receiving commendation from parents, the public and village councils.
