A thanksgiving program for Maongtula Longchar, the newly elected-unopposed member of the Mokokchung Municipal Council from Alempang Ward, was held today at the Community Hall in Alempang Ward, Mokokchung.

Maongtula thanked the people for their support and for electing her unopposed. She shared her lifelong connection to Alempang Ward and her active involvement in various social organizations.

Maongtula futher acknowledged her entry into the office through the 33% women’s reservation quota, thanking the Watsü and the Naga Mothers Association for their sacrifices that made it possible. She encouraged women to support and motivate each other, stressing unity for societal progress. She also highlighted the ULB platform’s potential to provide broader opportunities for women.

Tongpang Ozukum, Advisor of Water Resources, who graced the occasion, expressed gratitude to Alempang Ward Yimden for their support and praised their commitment to transparency and understanding. He pointed out that Alempang is the largest ward in Mokokchung, with nearly 900 households. Ozukum emphasized the various tasks ahead and mentioned discussing these matters with friends to ensure effective oversight.

He referred to the 12th Schedule of the Constitution of India, which outlines municipal-related items, and cited Chapter 6, Section 61 of the Municipal Act, detailing the functions and duties of municipal councilors.

Additionally, he mentioned Section 62, which allows for additional assignments if funding is sufficient, urging councilors to focus on these tasks for the ward’s benefit. He stressed the importance of familiarizing themselves with the Municipal Act, as the Municipal Council is instituted for the first time.

Ozukum further highlighted the significant responsibility of municipal councilors, emphasizing that they are the eyes and ears of the government. He urged them to take their duties seriously and work closely with the government.

The program was chaired by Imnasangla. I Rongsen Longkumer, Deacon, pronounced the invocation, and Rev Ngangnen, Pastor of Alempang Baptist Church, led the dedicatory prayer. During the program, short speeches were delivered by Lemasashi, Chairman of Alempang Ward Council; the President of NDPP Mokokchung Region; the President of NDPP 24 Angetyongpang AC; the President of NDPP Alempang Unit; representatives from Sungratsu Senso Senden Mokokchung; the President of Alempang Watsu Telen; and K Imtimeren, Ex-MTC member. The vote of thanks was given by Sentizulu, Convenor of the Campaign Committee.
