The 30 Alongtaki Assembly Constituency Congress Committee (ACCC) has called for transparency and an impartial inquiry into issues surrounding the Multi-Purpose Hall at Mangkolemba, reportedly sanctioned under the Khelo India Scheme.
In a press release, the ACCC said the public has the right to know details regarding the sanction, implementation, construction and utilisation of the project, given that it is a public-funded facility.
The committee said a multi-purpose hall could serve as a venue for sports, youth activities, community programmes, cultural events and other public purposes, and therefore called for relevant records and details to be made available for public scrutiny.
The ACCC also highlighted Mangkolemba’s role as the headquarters of the Jangpetkong, Japukong and Tsurangkong ranges, saying infrastructure developed there has significance beyond the locality and serves the wider population of the three ranges.
The committee urged the concerned authorities to conduct an impartial inquiry into any alleged irregularities and ensure that the facility ultimately serves the people of Mangkolemba and the three ranges.
It said seeking clarification on the project was part of democratic accountability and that public-funded projects should be subject to public scrutiny.
The ACCC further said it stands with the Mangkolemba civil society organisations and residents in their demand for transparency and accountability, and would support legitimate and democratic efforts to bring the matter to a conclusion.
