The NSCN-IM announced on 24 April the joining of 36 cadres from the NSCN-U.

“We are glad to announce the homecoming of 36 cadres from the Unification camp, including senior officers and civil staff. Realizing the futility of working for the nation under opportunistic and visionless leaders, their prudent decision to return to the mainstream organization is praiseworthy,” the NSCN-IM said.

An introductory meeting was held at the Longvibu’s chamber in the presence of high-ranking officers of the Naga Army, while a cordial reception and induction are in the offing, according to Ukhrul Times.

This development comes following a declaration of a “State of Emergency” by the President of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Unification (NSCN-U), Gen. (Retd.) MB Neokpao Konyak in all Naga-inhabited areas due to the “abnormal situations and threats faced by the GPRN/NSCN-U,” until further notice.

The declaration was made following a High-Level Meeting held on April 23, 2025, as per Ukhrul Times.

The declaration directed all Naga Army personnel on sick/casual leave to report to their respective Unit Commanders immediately. Also, it asked all unit commands across the Naga-inhabited areas to be vigilant and on high alert.

It may be noted that the NSCN-U has been facing internal strife due to a leadership tussle between groups led by Ato Kilonser MB Neokpao Konyak and Alezo Venuh, and another by Kitovi Zhimomi. On March 22, the Khehoi camp, the outfit’s designated camp, saw an alleged military coup, disgruntled by the leadership tussle. Though the two camps had maintained a stoic silence, sources had hinted that N Kitovi Zhimomi engineered it for retaking the camp, which he lost in April 2024.
