Although the eve of election was marred by violence in Mokokchung district, the polling day was deemed a success by the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS, who described it as “peaceful, fair, and clean” despite a few minor glitches.

“The polling timing was delayed in one or two constituencies because we had some issues with the machine , other than that this year’s Mokokchung election was historically very peaceful,” the DC added.

“There may have been small bits of violence between the candidates’ supporters, but that was stopped this time because the ROs, AROs, and security personnel intervened in time and sorted it out peacefully,” he said.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Mokokchung, Manoj Kumar, reiterated the same, stating that voting was very peaceful in all 235 polling stations.

“Mokokchung witnessed a peaceful polling day,” he said, adding that while the police were prepared, political parties, candidates, civil society, and voters really worked together with the police.
