Kohima, 26 July (MTNews): The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has appealed to the owners of government-registered vehicles to discontinue their use for school duties as part of its ‘Students Code of Conduct’ press release dated 13 June 2023. Today, through another press release, the union reiterated this appeal and informed that they conducted an awareness drive for Government Registered vehicles involved in transporting students to and from schools in Kohima.
According to the union, during this drive, a total of 53 government-registered vehicles were “kindly advised” to prioritize the welfare of the students and the public in general. However, the union also understands that no non-governmental organization possesses the authority to impose or implement rules. As such, as part of their sensitization drive, they respectfully undertook a democratic approach and advised vehicle owners to prioritize the welfare of the state by refraining from utilizing the state’s resources for personal purposes.
In the same press release, the union informed that they observed a ‘Cleanliness Awareness Drive’ on 22 July under the theme “Cleaner Kohima, Healthier Kohima,” envisioning a brighter and better Kohima. The drive aimed to imbibe in each individual the practice of a clean and healthy lifestyle.
The union took note that while the concerned authorities have been engaging in beautifying the state capital, there has been a lack of collective effort from the citizens. In response, the union has proactively educated and sensitized the citizens by installing 60 signs at various locations in Kohima town, appealing for a cleaner and healthier Kohima. Some of the signage carries messages such as “My Trash, My Responsibility,” “Cleanliness starts from you,” “One who maintains cleanliness keeps away diseases,” and “Adopt Cleanliness as a lifestyle.”
The Angami Students’ Union further appealed to all concerned citizens to be ‘forerunners’ in keeping Kohima city clean and also encouraged the students’ fraternity to practice responsible habits.
