Following the administration’s intervention on the Assam-Nagaland border tension in Tzurangkong as previously reported in this newspaper on 18 March, the Aosenden Village Council Chairman stated that the villagers have recommenced their jhum activities on Thursday, 30 March.

According to the Aosenden Village Council, there has been no disturbance in the region thus far, and the villagers have safely finished the clearing of forest for jhum cultivation on Thursday itself.

“We sincerely thank the Border Magistrate, the SDPO, the Longtho OC, and the entire district administration for resolving the matter. We are grateful that they took the matter seriously and communicated effectively with their Assam counterparts,” said the VC.

It may be recalled that on 13 February, border officials from both states met in Chungtiayimsen Village and agreed to maintain the status quo but tension arose on 8 March. In this regard, the border officials from both states met on 17 March at the location where the Aosenden villagers were clearing the forest and were disrupted by the Assam officials.
