The Associates for Performing Arts & Theatricals (APAT) celebrated its Silver Jubilee on 25 May at Aongza Ki, Mokokchung, under the theme “Towards a Transformative Art.” The event was marked by tributes, speeches, and presentations.

APAT founding members

The program began with a tribute to the APAT founding members led by Sentimenla, followed by a welcome address by T Talitemsu, Chairman of APAT. R Longritemjen Ao, Executive Secretary of APAT, delivered a brief speech on the association’s history and achievements, capturing its legacy and growth. He stated that the association held its first meeting on May 25, 2000, and that the first event organized by APAT took place on December 11, 2000, at Town Hall, Mokokchung.

Temjenzungba Kechu, Assistant Professor at Mokokchung College of Teacher Education, delivered the keynote address on the jubilee theme. In his speech, Kechu acknowledged the contributions of APAT, calling it “perhaps the first theatrical group in Nagaland.” He highlighted the importance of recognizing such pioneering efforts in the state’s cultural and educational landscape.

He emphasized that education is often kept in a vacuum and argued that integrating art into the system could pave the way towards transformative art. He advocated for including creativity and art in the educational curriculum, stating that art is not merely about acting but intersects with every aspect of daily life. By embracing this integration, he said, society as a whole can grow and prosper.
