Mokokchung, 23 September (MTNews): Following allegations of theft that emerged during a tragic incident near K-Station village under Tseminyu Police Station on 20 September 2023, the Rengma Hoho submitted a formal request for a thorough investigation of the matter to the Superintendent of Police, Tseminyu.

 

Expressing their concern over reports circulating on various social media platforms, which suggested that certain individuals took advantage of the victims’ vulnerability and distress by unlawfully appropriating their personal belongings, including mobile phones and cash, the Rengma Hoho raised community concerns. This prompted them to seek police and law enforcement intervention.

 

They emphasized that such action is not only necessary to provide solace to the grieving families but also to send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated within the community.

 

The Rengma Hoho stated, “Such actions not only contravene our moral principles but also stand in stark contrast to the cherished values of compassion and empathy that our society holds dear.”

 

As the investigation unfolds, it has come to light that certain individuals made inaccurate statements regarding the alleged theft during the tragic incident. Four individuals, namely Watienla Jamir, Anung Walling Elemenz, Aien Amri, and Saoyang Imlong, have jointly issued apologies for any harm and confusion their statements may have caused. They admitted that these accusing statements were made in the immediate aftermath of the event without concrete evidence or verification, acknowledging their grave error.

 

They also expressed deep regret for any distress their earlier statements may have caused and extended their gratitude to various entities, including passersby, the public of the Tseminyu district, local associations, the police, district administration, medical department, and others who provided timely assistance during the tragic incident, with special acknowledgment for the villagers of K-Station.
