Mokokchung, 23 September (MTNews): K Therie, former finance minister of Nagaland and former president of Nagaland Congress has welcomed the Women Reservation Bill, albeit with a note of caution. While expressing his support for the bill, Therie expressed concerns about potential delays due to its linkage with decadal census and delimitation processes. Nevertheless, he remained optimistic that the bill will be in effect by the next Nagaland State Assembly Elections and the 2029 Parliamentary elections.
Through a press statement, Therie stated, “Congress has initiated women reservation, and we are constant in our commitment. We hope and believe more women participation will change the political equations altogether. The State Assemblies and Parliament need natural essence in shaping policies and in planning for the welfare of the people. We are tired of rogue, silly and hate speeches. We can communicate diplomatically without provoking but with honour and love.”
Therie also urged women in the state to prepare themselves at all levels, especially for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) elections and the State Assembly elections. He emphasized the importance of attending public meetings to better understand the prevailing situations and recommended relying on official media for it is “evidence”.
He further stressed the significance of lawmakers understanding the art of governance in delivering justice, equality, welfare, and safeguarding the fundamental rights of citizens.
Therie also conveyed his best wishes to women across the state in their political endeavors.
