The Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) has invited applicants for opening of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK). As per information on their official portal, the vacant districts list for opening of PMBJKs in Nagaland are: Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Kohima, Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto.

What is Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra?

 

Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJKs) are centers set up under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) scheme in order to make available quality medicines, consumables and surgical items at affordable prices and also to popularize generic drugs.

 

The PMBJKs are the centers from where the quality generic medicines will be made available to all.

 

The implementing agency of PMBJKs is the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI).

 

The Government has set a target to increase the number of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) to 10,500 by the end of March 2025. The product basket of PMBJP comprises 1451 drugs and 240 surgical instruments. Further, new medicines and nutraceuticals products like protein powder, malt-based food supplements, protein bar, immunity bar, sanitizer, masks, glucometer, oximeter, etc. have been launched.

 

As of the latest data, there are 20 functional PMBJKs in Nagaland with 4 in Mon, 3 in Dimapur, 2 each in Kiphire, Kohima, Mokokchung and Phek, 1 each in Longleng, Peren, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto.

 

Who can set up PMBJKs?

 

PMBJKs can be set up by doctors, pharmacists, entrepreneurs, Self Help Groups, NGOs, Charitable Societies, etc. at any suitable place or outside the hospital premises.

 

Eligibility criteria to open PMBJKs is that applicants must hold D. Pharma/B. Pharma Degrees, or employ D. Pharma/B. Pharma degree holders.

 

Organizations or NGOs applying for a PMBJK must employ B. Pharma / D. Pharma degree holders and produce proof of the same at the time of submitting applications or at the time of final approval.

 

In Government hospital premises including medical colleges, the preferred agency is reputed NGOs/Charitable organizations, but individuals would also be eligible.

 

What are its Margins and Incentives?

 

Operating agency will be provided 20% margin on MRP (Excluding taxes) of each drug.

 

Special incentive shall be granted for PMBJK opened by the Women Entrepreneurs, Divyaang, SC, ST and any entrepreneurs that open ‘Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK)’ at aspirational districts (backward district) as notified by the NITI Aayog and in Himalayan, Island territories and North-Eastern states.

 

An amount of Rs 2 lakhs in addition to normal incentives as applicable will be given to the above-mentioned entrepreneurs, which includes Rs 1.50 lakh reimbursement for furniture and fixtures, and Rs 0.50 lakh as reimbursement for computer, internet, printer, scanner etc.

 

This will be a one-time grant for opening of new PMBJK against submission of original bills and restricted up to actual expenditure incurred.
