“Assam, with its remarkable history and cultural depth, has always held a special place in the hearts of the Nagas,” said Nagaland Governor La Ganesan during the celebration of Assam State Foundation Day at Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
Governor Ganesan highlighted the deep bond of friendship between the Nagas and Assamese, rooted in shared cultural, historical, and geographical proximities. He noted that centuries of interaction have fostered mutual respect and understanding between the two communities, forming a foundation of friendship and brotherhood that endures.
“Despite occasional differences, as with any neighboring states, the focus should remain on harmonious relations and shared prosperity,” the Governor said, urging the gathering to celebrate not only Assam’s accomplishments but also the enduring bond between the people of Assam and Nagaland.
He further stated that the commemoration of Assam State Foundation Day at Raj Bhavan aligns with the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative, which seeks to honor the unity and diversity of the nation.
Governor Ganesan lauded Assam’s contributions to India, emphasizing its economic significance as a hub of tea production, oil and gas reserves, and agricultural success. “Assam’s tea gardens have placed India on the global map, while its oil and gas reserves provide energy and economic strength,” he said.
Beyond economics, the Governor praised Assam’s cultural richness, citing its classical Sattriya dance, the vibrant Bihu festival, traditional Assam silk, and contributions to Indian music, arts, and literature. “Assam’s stories and traditions unite us in our diversity,” he added.
The celebration featured cultural performances, including a modern creative dance by Sanjana Bordoloi, an Assamese song by Monika Gogoi, a Bihu dance by Astha Gogoi, and a Bodo group dance by Beauty Basumatary and friends.
The program included a welcome address by Mhomo Tungoe, Joint Secretary to the Governor, a speech on Assam’s history and contributions by Dr Pallab Changkakoti, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Statistics, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, and a vote of thanks by Kevingozo Visa, Under Secretary to the Governor.
