Mokokchung, 7 September (MTNews): The Assam Rifles visited centenarian veteran Havildar Mering Ao, a recipient of the prestigious Shaurya Chakra from 3 Assam Rifles on 4 September at his native Sungratsu village.
At 104 years old, Hav Mering Ao is the oldest Gallantry Award winner of Assam Rifles in Nagaland. He was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in 1960 by then President Rajendra Prasad for his gallant act.
Brig Vikram Singh, Commander of 7 Sector along with Commandant of 12 Assam Rifles met Hav Mering Ao and interacted with his wife and family members. They enquired about his health and wished him a long and healthy life. They also presented a hearing aid to Hav Mering Ao to help him hear better.
