The 4th Conference of the Association of Nagaland Architects (ANA) was held at Noune Resort in Chumoukedima on 27 July, 2024. The gathering for the architectural community in Nagaland was marked by insightful discussions, presentations, and the election of new executive members. The conference was graced by MLA, Ar Jwenga Seb, who served as the Chief Guest.

The conference discussed various issues including the ratification of the ANA constitution and the formulation of guidelines. The guideline mandates that all architects in Nagaland are to adhere to. The conference also made a significant decision to include all degree and diploma holders of architecture under the wing of the association.

Other matters such as the challenges of enforcing building bylaws, the non-inclusion of architects on municipal boards, the decrease in service charges for government contracts against stipulations made by the Council of Architecture, the necessary preparations for the upcoming silver jubilee, the lack of awareness surrounding architectural services, and the pressing needs of young architects were also discussed.

The body also affirmed the need for better representation and assuring that they would continue to press for the redressal of lapses in policies, ensuring a better platform for the community and improving the quality of life for the people of Nagaland.

The keynote was addressed by Ar Richard Belho, a renowned advocate for bamboo architecture. Belho, underscored the versatility and sustainability of bamboo as a building material and shared insights on how bamboo architecture can be a viable solution for the state’s construction needs, promoting eco-friendly practices while leveraging local resources. Belho also spoke about the economic benefits of fostering a robust local economy. He stressed the importance of cultivating a strong work culture that values efficiency, innovation, and ethical practices.

The conference also unveiled a new ANA logo that reflected the ideals, culture and aspirations of the community. The design of the logo by Ar Martemsu Kechu was chosen among submissions from members.

The conference also saw the election of new executive members. The newly elected members are Ar Apokla Jamir as President, Ar Nokranglong Jamir as Vice President, Ar Khriebu as General Secretary, Ar Vinika Swu as Assistant General Secretary, and Ar Shanjo A Kithan as Treasurer. The Advisors for the new tenure are Ar Tarachu Fithu, Ar Richard Belho, Ar Chenithung, and Ar LM Yanthan.

The conference concluded with performances in the evening by comedian Michael Kez, singer Anonymous Jamir and Thungchanthung Ezung.
