ATMA conducts series of agricultural activities in Changtongya Block villages

The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) has successfully conducted a series of agricultural extension and capacity building activities across villages under Changtongya Block from February 26 to March 3. The week long programme aimed to strengthen farmers’ knowledge, promote improved technologies and encourage sustainable agricultural practices.

As part of the initiative, demonstrations on agricultural and allied crops such as chilli, tomato, HQPM maize and sweet corn were conducted by resource person Shilunokdang Jamir, ATM, Mangkolemba Block. Farmers were sensitised on improved cultivation practices, crop management techniques and methods to enhance productivity.

A capacity building programme focusing on preparation and value addition of pineapple squash, radish and bitter eggplant was conducted by Toshirenla T Longkumer, ATM, Changtongya Block. The training emphasised processing techniques, preservation methods and income generating opportunities through value added products.

Further strengthening the technical knowledge of farmers, a training session on Integrated and Sustainable Approach in Vegetable Cultivation was delivered by Recha Imchen, AHO and BTT Convenor, Department of Horticulture. The session highlighted eco friendly farming practices, integrated nutrient management, pest control strategies and sustainable production systems.

Two exposure field days were also organised to enhance practical learning. Farmers visited Changtongya Town for a field day on apiculture, while another field day was conducted at Yaongyimsen Village focusing on value added products of tapioca.

In addition, a Farm School on Integrated Farming System was inaugurated at Nukshiyim Village, which will serve as a knowledge hub for promoting integrated and sustainable farming practices among local farmers.
