Kubolong, 7 November (MTNews): The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kubolong Block, Mokokchung on November 6, 2023 organized a series of informative training and demonstration programs in Longjang village. The initiative aimed to equip local farmers with essential knowledge and techniques for improving crop management, increasing marketable surplus, and reducing post-harvest losses.
The events aimed to educate farmers on post-harvest management of horticultural crops, proper cultivation techniques for broccoli, and production technology for radish.
Training on Post-Harvest Management
During the one-day training program on ‘Post-Harvest Management of Horticultural Crops,’ Horticulture Extension Assistant Asenla served as the resource person. The focus was on educating farmers about effective post-harvest practices to enhance the shelf life of their produce and reduce losses. Topics covered included the causes of post-harvest losses, sorting, grading, packaging, storage, and methods to control such losses. Asenla also discussed post-harvest techniques like waxing, drying, and value-added product creation. The session emphasized the significance of proper post-harvest technology in minimizing losses, highlighting that reducing a 10% loss is more manageable than increasing a 10% yield. Additionally, Rabi seeds from the District Horticulture Office were distributed to the 26 participating farmers.
Demonstration on Broccoli Cultivation
ATMA Kubulong Block also conducted a demonstration on ‘Proper Cultivation Techniques of Broccoli.’ Block Technology Manager C Amongla Jamir served as the resource person. The demonstration aimed to impart the best practices for cultivating broccoli to increase marketable surplus. Topics covered included nursery bed preparation, sowing, spacing, and harvesting methods. Farmers were also educated on raising healthy, disease-free seedlings and the importance of irrigation and pest management. Broccoli seeds and Rabi crop seeds were distributed to the 10 farmers who attended the program.
Radish Production Technology Demonstration
Furthermore, ATMA Kubulong Block conducted a demonstration on ‘Production Technology of Radish’ with C Amongla Jamir as the resource person.
