Mokokchung, October 21 (MTNews): The Ongpangkong North Block and Kobulong Block of Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Mokokchung on Friday conducted various farmer oriented activities at Ungma, Longmisa and Longjang villages.

Ungma Village

 

 

ATMA Mokokchung Ongpangkong North Block conducted mobilization of farmers group Onchenna FSG at Ungma Village with T. Mayang, A.O, BTT Convener Ongpangkong North and Nuksunginla Jamir, ATM Ongpangkong North as resource persons.

 

Mayang gave a brief introduction on the improved cultivation techniques on nutritional garden and emphasized that nutritional garden plays an important role in food security by providing essential nutrients enhancing dietary diversity by providing micronutrients through constant supply of vegetables sufficient to meet the family’s requirements.

 

During the training on Cultivation Technique of Organic Winter Vegetables, resource person Nuksunginla emphasized on the importance of site selection for nursery bed, preparation of seedbed and its management. She also stressed on the cultivation techniques of winter vegetables such as the method of sowing, transplanting, spacing, irrigation, harvesting and management of insect pests.

 

Altogether 22 farmers attended the training program. Winter vegetable seeds such as broccoli, cauliflower, turnip, pokchoy, garden pea, carrot, radish, cabbage, field pea and mustard were distributed to each farmer.

 

She also gave a hands-on demonstration on Improved Packages and Practices of Garden Pea where preparation of field, method of sowing and proper spacing requirement of the plant was demonstrated. She also emphasized on the importance of trellis in pea for climbing.

 

 

Longjang Village

 

 

Owing to deterioration of the soil quality and soil loss, the need to mitigate arises. Understanding that healthy soil is the foundation for profitable, productive, and environmentally sound agricultural systems, ATMA, Kobulong Block, Mokokchung on October 21, 2022 organized a one-day training program on soil health management at Amesuba, Longjang village with Toshinenla, Junior Soil Conservation Officer (JSCO) as the resource person.

 

Anen emphasized on the importance of soil health and its role in food security and environmental safety. She also stressed on some strategies that can be used to manage soil health which includes reducing soil disturbance, crop rotation practices, cover cropping practices to promote plant diversity and living roots, adding soil organic amendments etc.

 

She further deliberated on micronutrients and macronutrients in the soil. In addition, the resource person deliberated on soil health cards. The program concluded by imparting hands-on training on soil sample collection.
Later, organic manures and micro nutrients (boron) provided by the District Soil Office, Mokokchung were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 18 farmers attended the training program.

 

 

 

Further, ATMA Kubolong Block also carried out a demonstration on proper cultivation techniques of potato with an aim to impart proper cultivation techniques to increase marketable surplus.

The demonstration program was conducted at Amesuba, Longjang village in Mokokchung district on Friday with C. Amongla Jamir BTM as the resource person.

 

During the program, Among covered all aspects of packaging practices of Potato. Hands-on demonstrations on land preparation, proper method of sowing, and dehaulming were carried out.
The resource person further deliberated on sowing time, irrigation, intercultural operations, disease and post harvest management.

Later, potato seeds and some rabi crop seeds were distributed to the farmers. Altogether 10 farmers attended the demonstration program.

 

 

Longmisa Village

 

 

Meanwhile, with the farmer group Jangyumedem FSG at Longmisa Village, resource person Nuksunginla gave a brief introduction on the primary purpose of FSG and sensitized the women farmers on the roles and functioning of FSG’s, maintenance of good record keeping, encouraging the members to work hard, the importance of building trust within the group and to maintain transparency. Further, she explained in detail the production technology of Cole crops.

 

Demonstration was also conducted on Improved Management Practices of Mustard and Improved Package and practices of Knol- Khol, where resource person Tajungsola Jamir ATM, Ongpangkong North gave hands-on demonstration on preparation of seedbed followed by seed sowing where proper spacing requirement of the plant was given.
The farmers were further highlighted on the importance of irrigation, insect pest management and harvesting of the crop.
