Mokokchung, March 11 (MTNews): In commemoration of 75 years of India’s Independence (Bharat ka Amrut Mahotsav), an awareness program for women beneficiaries under National Social Assistance Program (NSAP) under the theme “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow” was held at Ongpangkong Salang, Mokokchung today, organized by District Welfare Office, Mokokchung.

 

Speaking on the topic “Gender Equality and Women Rights”, guest speaker Molusen Imchen from MDLSA maintained that basic human rights are provided to every individual irrespective of gender but social evils and discrimination in society mostly affect women. Therefore, she said, the Government of India has formulated various schemes and laid down laws to assist women. She also proposed that it is important to create awareness on the subject for a safer society. Guest speaker, Asong Yaden from “SAKHI One Stop Centre” Mokokchung highlighted some of the services provided by the Centre to women in distress.

 

Earlier in the program, District Welfare Officer, Mokokchung, Hebou Rio delivered the welcome address while a vote of thanks was proposed by Sunepwapang, CDPO.
