A 10-day training programme on baking and confectionery was inaugurated at the Multi Training Centre (MTC), Kohima, to equip youth and women with skills for livelihood and entrepreneurship.
The programme is being conducted in collaboration with the Department of Women Resources Development (WRD) and funded by Kudecho Khamo, MLA and Advisor, CAWD, Nagaland, under the Local Area Development Fund (LADF).
Vahine Thisa, retired Principal Director of Treasuries and Accounts, attended as the special guest. She commended WRD for providing skill development opportunities, particularly for women, and appreciated Khamo for initiating the programme.
Thisa said skill development could help address employment challenges and described baking and confectionery as a trade with significant livelihood potential. She urged trainees to approach the training with “determination, dedication and discipline” and stressed the importance of hygiene and product quality.
She noted that baking businesses could start on a small scale, including from home, and expand gradually. She also encouraged trainees to establish enterprises in villages and share their skills with others, particularly to promote women’s financial independence.
Earlier, Hukupa Ciekhan, PA to the MLA and Advisor, said the initiative was aimed at helping youth and women become self-reliant. He urged trainees to develop an entrepreneurial outlook and not limit their aspirations to obtaining certificates.
The programme included a prayer by Deo Tetseo, Youth Director, CBCK, Kohima.
