In a landmark move for Indian basketball, the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) has officially announced the launch of the National Star Basketball League. The announcement follows the signing of a formal agreement between BFI and ACG Sports Private Limited on April 4, 2025, concluding a rigorous bidding process to determine the league’s organizing partner.
The financial bids were opened on March 6, with the Letter of Award (LOA) presented in the presence of Overseer Justice Shri Aadhav Arjuna and BFI Secretary General Kulvinder Singh Gill. The LOA was awarded to Karan Singh, Director of ACG Sports, marking a major step forward in professionalizing the sport in India.
The league is part of BFI’s broader strategy to elevate basketball standards nationwide. It will serve as a high-profile platform for players to showcase their talent, gain professional exposure, and pursue meaningful careers in the sport. With ACG Sports leading the initiative, the league promises an exceptional experience for athletes and fans alike.
BFI said the National Star Basketball League is set to become a transformative force in Indian sports. It will create a structured, competitive environment that provides regular top-level play, improved training conditions, and greater visibility for players and coaches. This professional ecosystem will not only raise the game IQ and skills of Indian talent but also serve as a scouting hub to identify and develop emerging stars.
“This league represents the foundation upon which we’re building the future of Indian basketball,” said BFI President Justice Aadhav Arjuna. “It’s not just about games—it’s about engineering a basketball revolution. With each match, we move closer to our Olympic dreams.”
BFI Secretary General Kulvinder Singh Gill echoed the excitement, calling it “a new chapter in Indian basketball history.” He emphasized that the league is designed to reshape the sporting landscape and inspire young athletes across the nation.
Karan Singh of ACG Sports described the league as the culmination of years of work and a shared vision with BFI. “Now we have the right structure and platform to build something real and lasting—something India can believe in.”
Sentiningsang Longkumer, Hon. Secretary of the Nagaland Basketball Association, hailed the move as “huge news for basketball players all over the country,” anticipating nationwide benefits including Nagaland’s ballers.
With its sights set firmly on Olympic glory, the National Star Basketball League is touted as a new era for Indian basketball.
