Basix Krishi Samruddhi Limited (BKSL), a national-level organisation working for agri-based livelihood promotion, has concluded a three-day training programme on modern technologies of horticulture farming in Peren district. The training was held from December 18 to 20, 2025, across three locations: Samziuram village, Jalukie B village and Nkwareu village. Each session was attended by 50 participants, bringing together farmers from different areas of the district.

The programme was organised with the support of the Central Institute of Horticulture, Dimapur, Nagaland, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The training focused on equipping farmers with updated knowledge and practical skills related to modern horticulture practices. Key areas covered included Good Agricultural Practices, sustainable farming methods, local-level value addition and the exploration of alternative markets to ensure better price realisation for farm produce.

Participants were guided to develop action plans to implement the new techniques learned during the sessions on their own farms. The organisers stated that the initiative aims to improve productivity, enhance income opportunities and contribute towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals through responsible and sustainable agriculture.

Resource person Sam Taro from the Spice Board of India, Dimapur Branch, addressed the participants on various government schemes available for farmers’ welfare. He also shared insights into horticulture techniques suitable for the region and emphasised the importance of good agricultural practices for improved output and market appeal. Stressing organic farming, he highlighted the need to adopt healthier food habits and reduce the use of pesticides and harmful chemicals. He encouraged farmers to work collectively through farmers’ interest groups and maintain the originality of locally grown products.

The training saw active participation and enthusiasm from farmers, particularly women, who expressed willingness to adopt new techniques and move towards self-sustainability. Interactive group discussions, moderated by Aakam Pame, provided a platform for participants to raise challenges and seek solutions. The programme concluded with participants committing to strengthen their farming practices and reduce dependency on chemical inputs.
