Window period on 29 April, shutter-down to resume on 30 April: MCCI

Mokokchung, 28 April (MTNews): As communicated by the Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) to all its district units, there will be a “window period” allowing businesses to open in all districts of Nagaland on Monday, April 29th. This window period aims to enable citizens to stock essential supplies in preparation for a prolonged shutter-down protest.

In Dimapur, the epicenter of the protest, the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) has announced that all business establishments will open on April 29th from 12 noon to 6 pm. This decision was made in response to requests from the Naga Council Dimapur and the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CNCCI). The DCCI stated that this measure aims to facilitate and provide relief to the citizens of Dimapur to stock essential supplies and meet other needs.

DCCI Vice President V. Shikuto Sema mentioned that if there is no positive response from the state government to its demands, the indefinite shutter-down will resume from April 30th onwards.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, has written to the DCCI requesting the business body to call off the indefinite shutter-down in the interest of the public. He assured that any grievances faced by the business community will be promptly addressed by the District Administration and Police.

The Deputy Commissioner made this request after emphasizing that the Government of Nagaland is taking the demands made by DCCI very seriously. He mentioned that the issue was discussed at the Cabinet meeting held on April 26th, and actions have been initiated by engaging various agencies for immediate implementation.

The Deputy Commissioner also informed the DCCI that the Government has deployed additional security forces to strategic locations to ensure the safety of the business community and the people of the district. He appealed to the DCCI to collaborate in eradicating the menace together.

However, the DCCI and the CNCCI are reported to have met and resolved that they would stand firm on their “indefinite shutter down” protest until the government provides assurance on their demands “in black and white” or “sit across the table and assure them satisfactorily on their demand” for the indefinite shutter down to be called off.

Mokokchung:

The Mokokchung Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) has informed that all shops and business establishments in Mokokchung district will remain open as usual on 29 April and that the shutter-down protest will resume from 30 April 2024.

“With no satisfactory response from the government, the indefinite shutter-down protest called by the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce & Industry (CNCCI) shall continue until the demands of the business community are met,” MCCI said.

Meanwhile, MCCI has requested the public not to resort to panic buying during this ‘window period’.

MCCI also cautioned traders against taking advantage of the situation and resorting to illegitimate business practices. Any trader found indulging in such activities will face punishment, it said.

MCCI also informed that members of the public can report any complaints or grievances to the MCCI by contacting the following numbers: 9436006062, 8415043591, 9436605461.

It also extended appreciation and gratitude to all for their understanding, support, and cooperation in their “pursuit of justice.”
