Dimapur, August 24 (MTNews): An Adolescent Learning Center (ALC) supported by Institute of Development Action (IDeA) Guwahati and initiated by Can Youth was inaugurated todayon 22nd August 2022, at Darogajan Village, Dimapur with special guest Mr. P.M. Thaosen, Chairman Village Council, Darogajan. The inauguration also coincided with the observance of Can Youth 13th Foundation Day.
Sentiwati, Program Manager, Can Youth delivered a brief note on the vision of opening Adolescent Learning Centre (ALC) and the importance of learning center with the motive to build the leadership skill, engaging adolescents in dialogue on social issues, sessions on reproductive sexual health and various fun and learning activities. The learning centrealso includes a small vibrantlibrary to create a space for the adolescents and young people to come together and learn.
He also shared about the 13-year-long journey of Can Youth, how it was started as a small young’s club founded by Jenpu Rongmei by working with school dropouts, youth volunteerism, and education program for children whose parents are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and children affected by Alcoholic and drug abuse parents and how it became full fledge NGO. He concluded by seeking support and cooperation from the community leaders and youth leaders in creating space and opportunity through collectively.
Mrs. Remila Longmailai (Village Council Member) assured to give full support and cooperation from the community to Can Youth. She also encouraged Can Youth to be strong as there will be good times and hard times and to never get discouraged but to stand strong and keep working for the betterment of the society.
P.M. Thaosen while Inaugurating (ALC) expressed his gratitude to Can Youth team for working towards the adolescent development. He highlight on the importance of taking care of adolescents as it is a very crucial stage where they learn all the good traits as well as the bad traits. He stated that role of a parent plays an important role in the development of a child and adolescent. In his statement, he encouraged the parents to give more importance towards their children rather than ignore/ neglect their child, which can cause effect the child in the future. He encouraged the parents to have limit control over everything towards their children for a better growth and development.
