Mokokchung, July 28 (MTNews): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mokokchung on Thursday organized a one-day awareness cum training program on water conservation under ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain Campaign’ at Mongsenyimti village on the theme “catch the rain, where it falls.”
An update from KVK Mokokchung said that the importance of the campaign and facts of water was highlighted by Imtilemla ACTO (soil conservation). She also spoke about the present and future scenario of water, and deliberated on the careful and judicious management of water resources.
“The need of the hour for our farmers in the sustainable use of water in agriculture for an optimum and assured return during lean season was also an inclusive and the participants were encouraged to take up rabi cultivation using low cost rain water harvesting technology like the Jalkhund for supplemental irrigation which can be constructed in the farmers’ field,” the update said.
Another topic on importance of cultivating pulse crop was delivered by ACTO (Agronomy), Imtisenla. The farmers were sensitized about the nutritive value of pulses and how growing pulses can provide food security as well as nutritional security for the farmers. Since the district itself has many pulse crops being cultivated by the farmers like soyabean, beans, rajmah, rice bean, pea, etc., she encouraged the farmers to take up pulses cultivation seriously.
Dr. Sarendi Walling, ACTO (Animal Science) spoke on the importance of water for livestock and also shared an awareness on the different aspects of piggery management like housing, feeding management, vitamin and mineral supplementation for better growth and performance, importance of deworming of livestock, disease management, etc.
The technical session was followed by a short interaction between the farmer participants and the resource persons, where the doubts of the farmers were addressed to and cleared by them. Later, the Kendra distributed vermicompost, vitamin mineral supplements and deworming medicines for livestock to the participants. Altogether 30 beneficiaries attended the program, the update said.
