In response to the recent extension of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in parts of Nagaland by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has issued a directive to all its affiliated and subordinate units.

The CSU strongly denounced the extension of AFSPA, stating that it perpetuates a climate of fear and intimidation among the people of Nagaland. According to the union, the AFSPA grants excessive power to the armed forces, leading to violations of human rights and the rule of law.

As a result, the CSU has directed all its affiliated and subordinate units to extend non-cooperation and refrain from any association with the Indian Armed Forces operating under the AFSPA. They stand united in their refusal to comply with any directives issued under this law.

“We stand in solidarity with our fellow citizens who have borne the brunt of its oppressive measures for far too long,” it added.

Furthermore, it called upon the Government of the day to heed the voices of the people and repeal AFSPA without delay.

“It is imperative that we restore dignity, justice, and respect for human rights in our beloved state of Nagaland. Let us unite in our resolve to combat oppression and injustice, and work towards a future where the rights and freedoms of all citizens are safeguarded,” the CSU added.
