A tragic incident claimed the lives of three youths from Changtongya Town, aged between 19 and 23, who drowned in the Dikhu River on January 11. The youths were part of an informal picnic organized by one of the victims, Ajidong, who had decided to take his younger cousins and friends to the river that morning.

According to sources, Ajidong constructed a raft made from banana stems and rode it on the river, leaving the rest of the group on the shore. When the raft capsized, Ajidong fell into the river and called for help. In an attempt to rescue him, the other two victims, Imtimeren and Imnatila, jumped in but tragically drowned in the process. The rest of the group, mostly younger individuals, was unable to help. The incident occurred around 12:30 PM.

The police confirmed the incident and identified the victims as Imtimeren, Ajidong, and Imnatila. “We learned of the incident after their bodies were brought back to town. We went to the spot, and all necessary formalities have been completed,” a police official told MT News.

The victims were residents of Changtongya PWD Colony. The two male victims were from Changtongya village, while the female victim, Imnatila, was from Yoangyimsen.
A man from Chuchuyimlang, who was passing by, discovered the bodies and helped retrieve them. The funeral has been held, and reports suggest the three will be buried together in the same grave.
