Chargers FC gears up for MDFA debut, unveils new jerseys

Mokokchung-based rising football outfit Chargers FC is set to make its maiden appearance at the MDFA Trophy 2025, the district’s biggest annual sporting event. In preparation for the tournament, the club held its jersey dedicatory program on October 11 at the Conference Hall, Circuit House, Mokokchung. Bengdangtemsu, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Longkhim Town, Department of Social Welfare, graced the occasion as the special invitee and unveiled the club’s official jerseys.


Formed in 2022, Chargers FC began as a futsal club in Mokokchung and has since earned several titles in local futsal competitions. This year marks the club’s first appearance in the MDFA tournament as it transitions into football, with a vision to promote and nurture local football talent from Mokokchung.

During the event, the club unveiled two jerseys. One was sponsored by ATMA, Department Mokokchung, while the other was supported by two partner entrepreneurs who are set to launch a new business in Mokokchung soon.

The MDFA Trophy 2025 is scheduled to begin on October 14 at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, featuring 11 teams in what is expected to be one of the most competitive editions in recent years. The tournament will consist of 10 league matches and 7 knockout matches. Teams are divided into four groups, with three teams each in the first three groups and two teams in the last group. Chargers FC is placed in Pool D alongside Sangpang SC. The two teams will face each other on October 16. Both are assured of a place in the knockout stage, and the outcome of their match will determine their group standings.

In his address, Bengdangtemsu encouraged the players to raise their standards and remain committed to improving their skills. Referring to the prestigious Dr. T. Ao Trophy, he observed that Ao players still have much to learn and prepare for, urging the team to build on its achievements through hard work, determination, and continuous self-improvement.

The program was organized by the Management Team of Chargers FC and featured a brief introduction to the club’s history, followed by a testimony shared by one of the players. A representative of the club informed Mokokchung Times that all players in the team are local talents from Mokokchung.
