Kohima, 16 January (MTNews): The 30th Chokri Area Wrestling Association (CAWA) meet 2024 will be held at Chetheba Town Local Ground under Phek district on 18 January.
Around 50 wrestlers will vie for the coveted title from 10 villages and one Town in the area. NWA reigning champion Venuzo Dawhuo is the four-time defending champ of the Chokri Area, while other prominent wrestlers include Pfusato Tetseo, Besuhveto Cumu, Vemele Thingo, etc.
CAWA & Taxes Advisor Kudecho Khamo will grace the occasion as a special guest, while Kiihiipoyo Puro, former vice president of the Wrestling Federation of India, will be the guest of honor.
The champion will receive a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh sponsored by Nuzota Swuro, chairman, Bamboo Development Agency, Government of Nagaland. The 2nd position comes with Rs 80,000, sponsored by Vesupra Kezo, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dimapur, followed by the third prize with Rs 70,000 sponsored by Muzito Thenucho Tunyi, Proprietor, CIMORB Hotel Kohima, while the 4th prize at Rs 60,000 is sponsored by Chorayi Veyie, Deputy Development Commissioner, Planning & Transformation department, Govt of Nagaland.
The prizes for the U-16 category are set with a total prize of Rs 60,000 sponsored by Er Muzivoyi Ringa, SDO, PWD (R&B), Dimapur Division.
CAWA President Vezhodüyi Thisa will deliver the presidential address during the opening ceremony, while CAWA Technical Secretary Thepukhoyi Swuro will administer the oath to the wrestlers.
