Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday called for leveraging festivals as opportunities to strengthen bonds and foster mutual respect.

Gracing the Khaozaosie Hok-Ah, the Khiamniungan Naga festival of feast and rest in Thonoknyu town, Noklak district, as the special guest on Tuesday, Rio stressed the significance of such celebrations in promoting peace, unity, and harmony among communities.

Speaking on the occasion, Rio extended his greetings to the Khiamniungan Naga community on the occasion of Khozaosie Hok-Ah, a celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage and traditions. He called upon everyone to use such occasions to strengthen bonds, foster mutual respect, and prioritize peace and harmony in Noklak, the State’s frontier district situated along the international boundary, as the foundation for progress and development. He also urged citizens to contribute to the overall development of the State.

“Festivals like Khozaosie Hok-Ah are not just a reminder of our deep-rooted traditions but also a platform to unite as one people, keeping peace and harmony at the forefront. It is through such unity that we can bring progress and prosperity to Nagaland,” Rio said.

The Chief Minister also urged the younger generation to take pride in their heritage and actively work towards preserving the rich culture and traditions passed down by their forefathers. He stressed that the youth play a vital role in carrying forward the legacy of the Naga people. In the festival spirit, Rio reiterated his commitment to fostering an environment of peace and inclusivity. He encouraged all citizens to celebrate responsibly and reflect on the shared values that bind the diverse communities of Nagaland together.

Expressing his happiness to join the Khiamniungan community in celebrating Khaozaosie-Hok-Ah, he described the festival as “a vibrant occasion of feasting and relaxation after agricultural toil.”

“It beautifully showcased their rich cultural heritage and unity. Wishing them continued success and prosperity,” he added.

Other highlights of the function included festival greetings by festival host MLA Benei M Lamthiu, the festival significance presented by former treasurer KTC, M. Ngon, and the welcome address by President KTC, Ngon. A short speech was delivered by Deputy Commissioner Noklak, Arikumba. A folk fusion item was presented by Tupong & Thango.

The event was followed by the inauguration of handicraft stalls and an inspection of cultural troupes by the special guest.

The craftsmanship, creativity, and showmanship reflect the rich cultural heritage of the Khiamniungan community. Proud to support and promote their unique artistry,” Rio later shared on social media.

The event was attended by Minister of Forest, Environment & Climate Change, Village Guards C L John; Advisor Geology & Mining, DUDA, W. Chingang Konyak; Advisor School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome.

The festival was organized by the Khiamniungan Tribal Council, aided by the Government of Nagaland. (With DIPR inputs)
