Kohima, November 18 (MTNews): Nagaland athletes who won medals at the recently held North-East Olympic Games 2022 were accorded warm felicitation on Friday at the State Banquet Hall, Kohima. Nagaland Chief Minister and president of Nagaland Olympic Association, Neiphiu Rio presented the gold, silver and bronze medal winners with cash prizes of Rs 50,000, Rs 25,000, and Rs 10,000, respectively as announced prior to the competition.
The Nagaland Government was reported to have awarded a total of Rs. 4,301, 000 (forty three lakh one thousand) to 79 medalists who recently won medals for the Nagaland team at the Northeast Olympic Games which included 18 Gold, 17 Silver and 44 Bronze, finishing in the 5th position overall.
The best athlete winner Neiketoulie Belho, and U-20 women’s best athlete Niansai T were awarded an additional amount of Rs. 75,000 each for their performance at NEOG. The coaches and managers of the medal winners were also awarded monetary incentives.
The best performing three associations – Nagaland Athletics Association, Nagaland Wrestling Association and Nagaland Taekwondo Association were also awarded Rs. 5 lakhs, Rs. 4 lakhs and Rs.3 lakhs respectively.
Rio also congratulated the medal winners on behalf of the State Government, the Nagaland Olympics Association, and the citizens of Nagaland. Rio also said, “We remain committed to investing in sports development and infrastructure.”
“With humility, we accept the Northeast Olympic Association flag to host the third Northeast Olympic Games,” Rio confirmed.
