Kohima, 20 June (MTNews): Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today inspected the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR), Kohima. He was accompanied by Health Minister Paiwang Konyak, Chief Secretary J Alam, and a host of government officials. Rio inspected the ongoing infrastructural works and toured the various facilities at NIMSR.
Addressing the officials after the inspection, the Chief Minister said he was pleased with the progress of works. He said the infrastructure is almost ready and also assured to give the required financial assistance for the institute. The Chief Minister asked the Director of NIMSR to put up a proposal of annual budget required for the institute so that the government can allot funds accordingly. Rio expressed hope that the citizens of the State will benefit from the institute.
Meanwhile, Commissioner & Secretary Kikheto Sema informed that an amount of Rs 189 crore was sanctioned for the college by the Government of India with 90:10 funding pattern between the central and state governments. However, he said Rs 333.25 crore is projected as an “additional infrastructure requirement for subsequent renewable” as per National Medical Commission norms for a period of five years.
Kikheto also informed that the NIMSR is expected to have a full-fledged 550 bedded hospital within the college premises from 2026-2027. Mention may be made here that it was earlier announced that the medical college is scheduled to start the MBSS program from academic session 2023-2024.
Rio hopes academic session 2023-2024 at NIMSR will start on time
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio hoped that the academic session for the year 2023-2024 of Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (NIMSR), Kohima will start on time. Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of his visit to NIMSR today, Rio said, a final inspection would be carried out before the commencement of the academic session. On being asked whether the academic session of the Medical College will start by July as announced earlier by the health department, he said, it would depend on NIMSR authorities but was hopeful that classes will start within this academic session.
