Kohima, 5 May (MTNews): As the Chairman of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Chief Minister Rio called on all departments to be prepared to tackle any disaster that the state may face in the monsoon season.
The CM instructed the departments with various roles during a monsoon preparedness meeting held on Thursday at the CM Residential Complex. He suggested that more importance be given in informing the public about the weather forecasts at the local level.
He also asked PWD(R&B) and NHIDCL to maintain good roads with proper drainage. He instructed that the laying of cables on the road should be deep enough and should be done with prior consultation from the department concerned.
He called on the Home Guards (HG), Civil Defense (CD) & State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to ensure that their forces are properly trained and ready to be deployed anytime anywhere. The Health & Family Welfare Department was asked to keep sufficient stock of medicine for use in medical emergencies.
The PHED department was also asked to ensure the supply of good and clean drinking water is available even during the monsoon season while the Food and Civil Supplies department was asked to keep a check on their godowns and stores with proper road connectivity both in the districts and other rural areas.
Advisor NSDMA, Z Nyusietho Nyuthe lamented that many of the natural disasters in the state are manmade and said that they can be avoided if people take care of little things like clearing roads and blockages, and keeping proper drainage systems before they turn into bigger disasters.
