The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI) has welcomed the outcome of the second Consultative Meeting between the Nagaland Tribal Hohos Coordination Committee (NTHCC) and the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO), held at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur on May 27.
In a statement issued by its chairman Dr Khekugha Muru and General Secretary Avi Chase, the CNCCI described the resolution adopted during the meeting as a “historic and significant step” towards strengthening unity, brotherhood and collective responsibility among the Nagas of Nagaland.
The chamber said the coming together of apex tribal bodies under a common platform reflected the long-cherished aspiration of the Nagas and marked an important development achieved through “mutual understanding, cooperation, and the spirit of oneness.”
According to the CNCCI, the development should not be viewed as merely the formation of another organization, but as a landmark moment in the collective journey of the Naga people towards greater unity and a shared purpose.
The chamber further expressed hope that with the demands and aspirations of the ENPO moving towards fulfilment through the tripartite Memorandum of Agreement signed between the Government of India, the Government of Nagaland and the ENPO, the people of Nagaland would rise above differences and work collectively towards an honorable and peaceful settlement of the Indo-Naga political talks.
Calling the Indo-Naga political issue the “foremost collective issue” for the Nagas, the CNCCI urged tribal leaders to facilitate an early political settlement and ensure lasting peace, stability and opportunities for future generations.
The chamber also appealed to the NTHCC to remain vigilant against individuals or leaders allegedly pursuing personal agendas, political survival or vested interests at the cost of Naga unity.
“History will judge their actions, and posterity may not look kindly upon those who seek to divide rather than unite the Nagas at this critical point in history,” the statement added.
