“Tempest of Tranquility,” a poetry collection by Kurhungolu Ritse, a third-semester English student at Capital College of Higher Education (CCHE) in Kohima, was launched on Monday by Suohienuo Keyho, Principal of the Extension Training Centre (ETC) in Phek, SIRD Nagaland.
Published by CUE Academy Publications, the book features a cover design and illustrations by Moasunep Longchar, a fifth-semester BA student at CCHE, and was unveiled at a special event at the college.
In her address, Keyho expressed her enthusiasm for releasing Ritse’s book, acknowledging the courage it takes to share one’s inner voice through poetry. She remarked on poetry’s unique ability to illuminate complex experiences and emotions, inviting readers to connect and reflect on their own lives through each poem, which serves as a window into the poet’s soul.
Keyho praised Ritse’s achievement with “Tempest of Tranquility,” calling it a bold endeavor that showcases her patience and commitment. She encouraged attendees to recognize poetry’s value, emphasizing its capacity to inspire, challenge, and heal.
Ritse described her collection as a collaborative achievement, made possible by the support of her mentors and the college. She expressed gratitude for the platform provided to share her thoughts and realize her dreams. For Ritse, poetry is a deeply personal language that allows her to articulate the unspeakable. She recalled nearly giving up on her writing aspirations but was motivated to persevere by her mentor, Dr. Rukulu.
Reflecting on the journey of writing “Tempest of Tranquility,” Ritse acknowledged the challenges and moments of self-doubt. The title symbolizes the tension between outward calm and inner turmoil, capturing her joys, sorrows, hopes, and dreams. She hopes the collection resonates with readers, encouraging them to explore their own voices and emotions.
Dr. Rukulu Kezo Puro, Head of the Department of English, introduced the book as part of the department’s Expressions of Creativity project, which included writing and illustration workshops. She highlighted how Moasunep’s illustrations enhance Ritse’s poetry.
Dr. Zokho Venuh, Principal of CCHE, welcomed guests and commended Ritse’s accomplishment as a significant academic achievement for the college. The event was hosted by Academic Dean Abeino Zashu, with a prayer by Tatongkala Lemtur, Dean of Students, and a vote of thanks by Dzüthozo Ritse.
