KVK Mokokchung organizes Jal Shakti Abhiyan cum Kisan Mela

 

Mokokchung, September 23 (MTNews):  Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mokokchung organized a Jal Shakti Abhiyan program cum Kisan Mela at Multi Purpose Hall Sangtemla Ward on Friday.

 

During a brief keynote address, Longdiba Sangtam, SDO (C) Mokokchung (Sardar), emphasized on the need of water harvesting and conservation. He further highlighted the need of sustainable commercial farming, stating that farmers should not only cultivate for their personal use, but also farm for market consumption.

 

 

Dr. Sentitula Pongener (IFS), DFO Mokokchung, during her thematic speech, stated that water is the totality of life, emphasizing the need of water conservation.
She went on to remark that “humans are the custodians of our own water sources” and that, everyone has a duty to preserve the water sources around them.
Dr. Pongener also highlighted the importance of trees in conserving water through their roots.

 

Trees also aids in the preservation of surface water, underground water, and ground water sources, she said.

 

She went on to say that conserving flora and fauna is necessary for protecting water, that community involvement and awareness are crucial, that agri and allied departments should coordinate collectively to assist the community, and that water conservation and forest preservation are all important.

 

The program was chaired by Dr. Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist & Head KVK, Mokokchung while Tokiho Achumi, Asst. Chief Technical Officer (Agronomy) KVK, Mokokchung gave the vote of thanks.
