The Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) is appalled and outraged by the abhorrent incident that took place on January 29, 2024, at New Showba Village. The reprehensible assault inflicted upon Mr. Moalong Jamir, a 19-year-old student of Tetso College, Dimapur, by members of the AVTS team of Nagaland Police is an outrageous violation of human rights and an affront to the principles of justice and dignity.
The heartless and unwarranted actions resulting in severe physical and mental trauma, including left ear drum damage, fractured spinal cord, and swollen kidney, are unequivocally condemned by the OKM. Such barbaric behavior, perpetrated by those entrusted to uphold the law, is a grave betrayal of public trust and an assault on the very fabric of our society.
The OKM demands immediate and decisive action from the competent authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. We insist on a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident, with transparent oversight to guarantee justice for Mr. Jamir and his family.
We categorically reject any attempts to justify or trivialize such acts of violence. There can be no excuse for the abuse of power and the flagrant disregard for the rights and safety of individuals.
We urge the Nagaland Police and relevant authorities to demonstrate their commitment to upholding the rule of law by taking immediate and decisive action against those responsible. Failure to do so would only serve to perpetuate a culture of impunity and erode public confidence in our institutions.
The OKM reiterates its firm stance against all forms of violence and oppression. We call upon our fellow citizens and civil society organizations to join us in condemning such disgraceful acts and advocating for a society where justice, dignity, and respect for human rights prevail.
The OKM is committed to closely monitor developments in this case and will not rest until justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to account. We stand united in pursuit of truth, accountability, and justice for Mr. Moalong Jamir and all victims of injustice.
