The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has backed the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO)’s opposition to the reported transfer or redeployment of sanctioned posts, along with incumbent personnel, from the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, to the newly created Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Meluri.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the CSU said it recognised the need to strengthen the newly created Meluri district and establish an effective administrative framework there. However, it maintained that this should be done through “independent sanctioning of adequate posts and manpower” for Meluri rather than by reducing the existing sanctioned strength of Phek.
The Union said Phek was already facing an acute shortage of personnel across several government establishments and warned that any further reduction in sanctioned posts would constrain the functioning of the district administration and affect public service delivery.
The CSU urged the government to review and withdraw any order involving the transfer or redeployment of sanctioned posts from Phek and ensure that the administrative strength and institutional interests of the district are protected.
It maintained that “the strengthening of a newly created district should not come at the expense of an existing district” and called on the government to safeguard what it described as the legitimate administrative and public interests of the people of Phek.
