The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) held its 3rd Union Assembly for the 2024–2026 tenure at Zhavame Village, with participation from 48 affiliated and subordinate units, the President of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), and senior leaders of CSU.
A key highlight of the assembly was the reaffirmation of CSU’s agitation against the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL) and the EPC contractor M/s Ratna Infra Project Pvt Ltd. over what it termed “negligence and inaction” in the construction of the NH-29 Kohima–Jessami Road, specifically the Chakhabama–Kikruma stretch under Package-II.
“The house reaffirmed to continue its agitation until the demand of the Union is fulfilled,” the CSU declared.
Besides the highway issue, several other pressing matters were discussed. These included the “strict implementation of Inner Line Pass,” “monitoring of proxy teachers,” and addressing “government employees’ irregularities.” The Union also deliberated on curbing “taxation from the local entrepreneurs, so as to promote entrepreneurship and innovation.”
Another significant resolution involved the “collection of data on Chakhesang culture and traditions for preservation and digital documentation,” underscoring the Union’s focus on cultural heritage in the digital age. The house also “deliberated on the issue of teacher shortages within its jurisdiction”.
The Zuketsa Students’ Union volunteered to host the 79th General Session of CSU, scheduled for February 2026.
The CSU also “expressed its appreciation to Zhavame Students’ Union for hosting the assembly and for the exemplary hospitality” shown during the event.
