The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy has announced a protest march to be held across all district headquarters inhabited by the five tribes on May 29, 2025, following the Nagaland government’s failure to respond to its demands.

In a press release issued on Monday, the Committee stated that “the state govt has failed to respond to our Memorandum of 20/09/2024 and the 30 days Ultimatum of 26th April 2025 which ended today.” In response, the Committee said it has resolved to initiate the “first phase of agitation” following a joint meeting held on May 24 at CPO Hall, Chümoukedima, which was attended by the apex tribal bodies and their youth and student organizations.

According to the Committee, the protest will include a “protest march to the DC office in respective districts,” where an “Ultimatum Reminder to the Govt of Nagaland will be submitted through the Deputy Commissioner.”

The protest centers around what the Committee described as “48 Years of indefinite Reservation Policy,” which it argues has continued without proper consideration of the concerns raised by non-backward tribes. “Various review committees have never addressed the concerns of non-backward tribes,” the statement said.

Calling for public participation, the Committee appealed to “all the public especially youths and students from the five tribes” to support and join the protest, describing it as a movement against an unresolved issue that has persisted for nearly five decades.
