New infrastructure includes experiential learning units, modern piggery, feed production facilities and horticulture research laboratory
Nagaland University inaugurated six new academic, research, agricultural and student-oriented facilities at its School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS), Medziphema Campus, on September 3.
The facilities were inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik in the presence of faculty members, administrative officials, staff and students.
The newly inaugurated facilities include two Experiential Learning Programme (ELP) units under the Departments of Horticulture and Livestock Production and Management (LPM), a Modern Piggery Project, Feed Production Units at the Medziphema and Kohima campuses, a Horticulture Research Laboratory, a Naga Morung and a Sports Complex.
The Feed Production Unit at the Kohima Campus was inaugurated virtually, while the facilities at Medziphema were inaugurated during the programme.
The new facilities are expected to provide students and researchers with greater opportunities for hands-on learning, experimentation, skill development and research in agriculture and allied areas.
The Modern Piggery Project and Feed Production Units are intended to support practical training and promote scientific approaches to livestock production and feed management.
The university said the facilities would also help bridge the gap between classroom learning and field-based application, while creating opportunities for research, innovation and extension activities.
The Naga Morung is expected to contribute to the preservation of cultural identity, while the Sports Complex will support the overall development and well-being of students.
Addressing the programme, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Jagadish K. Patnaik said the university was looking towards more active research, innovation and publications from its faculty and researchers.
He also expressed the university’s aspiration to achieve higher rankings for the School of Agricultural Sciences as well as Nagaland University as a whole.
The inauguration marks another step in the university’s efforts to strengthen campus infrastructure and create a conducive environment for teaching, research, innovation, extension and student development.
